This newly revised edition of BGTFTCM covers everything you need to know to accompany traditional Celtic music by ear! The book covers music theory, modal harmony, strumming patterns and chord substitutions before moving onto more advanced harmony, using “jazz” chords and everything else you need to know to create your own unique backing guitar style. The book is very much focused on learning to listen for harmonies and uses a simplified approach to melodic interpretation to provide a framework which you will quickly learn to apply to different types of traditional tune.
Here’s a list of enhancements made since the original edition:
- All (touch wood!) typos and incorrect key references removed
- Page numbers added and page references corrected!
- Strumming pattern demonstrations added to audio folder
- Completely overhauled theory section presents the “chord families” framework earlier on to make it easier to memorise
- Expanded guide to how to listen for chord families with more practical examples
- Colour coding added to all chord grids and diagrams to enhance user understanding of substitutions and chord construction
- Enlarged collection of chord diagrams with additions for further useful shapes and techniques I have discovered since writing the original edition
Please note that the audio is now included free of charge with paperback editions. The accompanying audio is .mp3 so both can be opened on your computer or smart phone. Download instructions can be found on the checkout page for UK purchases or in the opening text of the Amazon edition.
